Earth Science
Earth science which is called Geodesy is a science of investigating and measuring the actual form of the earth, its size, shape and also gravitational field. Many years ago people believed that the earth is flat, however later on Aristotle managed to prove Pythagoras' theory which stated that the earth was round. After people find out the earth is round, first tests and calculation were made, however later tests and calculations were more accurate and therefore successful. The form of the earth was described in more detail, the hills and mountains were also mentioned.
Nowadays Geodesy is a separate science which uses such sciences as mathematics, astronomy and physics in combination with modern engineering and technology for making new tests and surveys. There are many interesting facts about Earth Science and our environment one can find out, if he/she is interested in Geodesy. Speaking about this very science or any other science it's necessary to say that science itself can be captivating for any age.
The International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) is an organization which is focuses on developing and promoting knowledge of the Earth system as well as its space environment and different dynamical processes which result in different changes. The IUGG's data, information and knowledge are absolutely available to the society as far as all members of this international organization aim at providing people with the information which is required for responsible use of natural resources, reducing the impact of natural hazards, enlarging one's scope, etc. All this information is priceless because it gives us a splendid opportunity to learn more about the Earth's natural environment and negative results of human activities. |
